PREMATURE SALUTE TO VICTORY

Whistles And Sirens In Wellington

Shortly alter 9 p.m. on Saturday there was a premature and impromptu salute to victory in Wellington. Train whistles blew the customary victory signals, for several minutes, and a ship’s siren joined in. ’ The noise raised expectations of a formal victory announcement, but this was not forthcoming.
