Cologne, third largest city of Germany and capital of the Rhineland, which has fallen to the American First Army. Practically the whole of the city was found to be in ruins, though the great Gothic cathedral shown clearly above is not beyond repair. The famous Hohenzollern bridge, on the right, is said to be sinking into the river after recent bombing and explosions.
