TRAVEL RESTRICTION

Move For Uniformity

Though there have been no alterations in railway travel restrictions since they were introduced patrons of certain stations may have, noticed recently what appears to have been a tightening up in the methods. The railway authorities have a host of stations with which to deal, and there has been an inconsistency in the treatment of applications at various stations. In order to make the original instructions ns consistent as possible throughout New Zealand there has therefore been a certain amount of checking up. It is hoped as a result that travel restrictions throughout New Zealand will now be interpreted in exactly the same manner at all stations. The system as it was intended to apply everywhere grants permits to travel more than 50 miles by rail to those who have to attend to business of a nature essential to the war effort, and those for whom journeys are declared by doctors to be urgent. Permits are also allowed in genuine cases of death or serious illness of near relatives.
