PIPELINE PROPOSAL
Question In Commons LONDON, February 9. The Foreign Secretary, Mr. Eden, was asked in Parliament about a United. States plan to build an oil pipeline from the Persian Gulf area to the Mediterranean. Mr. Eden said he had no statement to make at present. The plan was in a very early stage, and before it was developed he thought the United States Government would approach the other Governments concerned.
Mr. Eden agreed that the British Government ought to be consulted in a matter that so profoundly affected the interests of Britain and the Commonwealth, and said he was expecting a report from the British Ambassador in Washington. As soon as he received it he would consider whether he could make any further statement.
Mr. Eden pointed out that before the plans for a pipeline came to fruition consultations would obviously be necessary with all the many Governments concerned.
