DOUBLE TRAGEDY ON FARM

Maori Kills Wife FOUND DYING WITH RAZOR IN HAND (Uy Telegraph.-— Press association.) AUCKLAND, February 8. A double tragedy occurred this afternoon at Abipara, a Maori settlement at the southern end of the Ninety Mile Beach, when a Maori fanner, after kill-, ing bis wife, took his own life. The victims were Kahiti Koha, farmer, aged about' 61 years, aud his wife, Mrs. Ani Kahili Koha, aged about 58 years. Mr. Hoha, who was a returned soldier of the last war, lived with his wife, two daughters and a adopted sou in a threeroincd house on a farm at Ahipara. He was farming under the supervision of the Native Department. The tragedy occurred at two o’clock. Shortly after MrBriar. Wilson, an officer of the Native Department, arrived at the farm he discovered Koha sonic distance from the house. He was suffering from a severe throat wdund and was clutching u razor. He died a short time afterward. The body of Mrs. Koha was discovered fuij ther away from the house. Deep wounds had been inflicted about her head and a bloodstained axe was found nearby.

The adopted son and one daughter were <it school at the time of the tragedy. The elder daughter who assists on the farm was in the house and ran to get help from some Maoris who were working nearby. s
