IN MADAGASCAR
Claim Of Fighting In Wide Area (Received May 10. 8.20 p.m.) LONDON, May 9. Paris radio stated that fighting • continues on all fronts in Madagascar, and that 10 British planes so far have been shot down. The radio station at Antananarivo the capital, is still broadcasting, and the French have formed new centres of resistance at Manajary,
it is claimed. In London yesterday the Foreign Secretary, Mr. Eden, stated that the British casualties in Madagascar probably did not exceed 500.
Vichy reported that .the French forces in Madagascar totalled 7000, only 1300 of whom were engaged in the north, leaving the remainder In the interior of the island. The air force comprised obsolete machines, all stationed at Diego Suarez.
