Highly-placed Americans returning home from Italy paint a gloomy picture of conditions in Italy. They say that Signor Mussolini is an 11.-ami disappointed, man. He is reported to be living in semi-seclusion surrounded by members of the Ges- \ tt-.po. : The Italian people are openly saying > \ they would prefer to become a British rather than a German colony. The • Italians are keen listeners to the I-’.B.C. which gives them all the news. Their own stations tide out small, inspired bulletins. Rood everywhere is rationed, and clothing and shoes are almost unpurchasable by the average peasant.
