20th Annual Meeting Of Delegates „ SOUND FINANCES The incoming season would mark the “coming of age” of the Wellington Mercantile Cricket League, said Mr. E. F. Casey, chairman of the management committee of the league at the twentieth annual meeting of delegates ou Monday night. The finances were in an excellent'«slate, there having been no loss during the’ past two seasous, though club memberships had suffered because of the •war. Funds had been invested in the'war. loan, aud the medical fund was in a sound position. . ~ , ,• Membership difficulties would probably be accentuated during the incoming season, said Mr. Casey, but the management committee would give -clubs every assistance in the matter of fielding teams. A welcome was extended to the new president, Mr. R. J. Murphy, reference being made to his fine sporting record. The election of officers resulted as follows: Patron, Mr. R. A. Wright; president, Mr. R. J. Murphy; vice-presidents, re-elected with the addition of Mr. F. W . Reed (harbour board) ; treasurer, Mr. 8. W.'Martin; recording and assistant secretary, Mr. E. R. Martin; committee, Messrs. E. F. Casey (chairman), W. RKing (deputy-chairman),. E. H. W. Killick, J. M. Pointon, W. J. Matson, G. L Morison, F. Jack, J. Young; auditors. Messrs. S. Milne and C. Cooper; medical fund trustee, Mr. J. Young; bon. solicitor, Mr. C. H. Arndt. Amendments to Rules. Several notices of motion brought down by the management committee were approved. They provided for disciplinary action against a team playing an unregistered player and for all matches to start at 2 p.m. and finish at 6.20 p.m. with an extension to 6.30 p.m. in certain circumstances. The following amendments to rules were adopted ;- —“When a match begins at 2 p.m., the team batting first shall not bat longer than 2 hours 10 minutes from the schedule time. Provided always (1) That in the case of a team delaying the start of play the team not at fault may claim 2 hours 10 minutes from the time play actually started; (2) that no extra time shall be allowed to either batting side through loss of playing time due to inclement weather.” The following amendment in the rules of the medical fund was approved: “Medical attention shall not include medicine or the repair and/or renewal of damaged dentures.” It was agreed to recommend to the medical fund trustee that first-aid kits be placed on each ground under the League’s jurisdiction A motion of sympathy was passed with Mr. O. E. Dormer, chairman of the umpires’ association, in his serious illness.
