Enemy Columns Turned Back (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, July 28.

A Cairo communique says: “In the frontier area two strong enemy patrols of aU arms moved during yesterday afternoon in a south-westerly direction. After being engaged throughout by our mobile troops, both columns were finally forced to withdraw.” Another communique says that the Australian patrol mentioned yesterday, which captured enemy positions on July 26, remained there tor two days, and finally withdrew, after inflicting further casualties on the enemy.

It adds: “After dark on July 26 three strong enemy patrols approached pur lines. This half-hearted attempt at retaliatory raiding w’as driven off by rifle-fire, with no casualties to our troops.” R.A.F. heavy bombers again raided Benghazi harbour on the night of July 26-27. GERMAN PRAISE Italian Attack On Malta LONDON, July 28. The Italian news agency quotes a report from Berlin to the effect that the German Press continues to comment on the great success of the Italian forces in the Mediterranean. “The audacious enterprise undertaken by small but rapid units is unanimously admired, and confirms the glorious traditions of the Italian navy,” the report says. Writing in “Il Telegrafo,” Signor Ansaldo states that 420 planes participated in the three-days’ action against the British convoy in the Mediterranean.

General Fedrigi, commander of the Italian Mediterranean air fleet, was killed in combat over Malta. It is learned in London that R.A.F. fighters shot down two Savoias in flames yesterday off Malta.
