N. i itzgeralii, is leading owner for the 1»4<b4.1 sea ®““* according to the official statistician, cor yearn now Mr. Fitzgerald has been a keen supporter of racing, and, ot the bloodstock industry, and it must be Pleas ing to him to hive bred a borse of the calibre of Kindergarten. Th® total amount of stakes won by Mr. Mtzgerald this season is £9013, Of which Kindergarten won £7330. A three-year-old by Kincardine — Valadore, Kindergarten ranks as the best of his yean His victories this season include the Alison Cup, Christmas Handicap, Great Northern Derby, Wellington Cup, North Island Challenge Stakes, N.Z. St. Leger, Awapuni Gold Cup, A.R.C. Easter Handicap. and the Great Northern St. Leger. Other horses successfully raced by Mr. , Fitzgerald this season are bma.l Boy, Smiling Personality, Native Song, Native Chief, Dusky Morn, St. Bill, and Visibility. The Canterbury sportsman, Mr. K. Hay, of Pigeon Bay, is second on the list, having won £3753 in stake-money. Ot this total Doria won £1495 2 and the hurdle horse Dividend £1435. Doria, who has proved to be a high-class three-year-old, accounted for the C.J.L. I apa- ■ rua Handicap, D.J.C. Air Force Handicap, C.J.C. Stonyhurst Handicap, D.J.C. Federal Handicap, and the Hazlett Gold Cup. The two-year-old Palfrey, who promises to develop into a good three-year-old, did riot come to hand early, but late in the season won for Mr. Hay the D.J.C. Champagne Stakes and the C.J.C. Champagne Stakes. ...... *The colours of Mr. W. McA. Duncan, third on the list, were successfully carried by Scandal, Taurangi, Red Cat, Ruatiti, and Tuatara. These horses won 16 races, valued at £3420, for the season. Products of the well-known Koatanui Nursery to be raced by their breeder, Mr. G. M. Currie, in fourth place, were Dynasty, Curtail, Ringcraft, Premature, .aid Homily, and together they won £3377. Premature, a two-year-old by PosterityImpetuous, won five races —the Feilding Juvenile Stakes and Oroua Nursery Handicap, W.R.C. Pluuket Nursery, and Pacific Handicap, and the Munawatu Sires’ Produce Stakes —but was narrowly beaten in the Great Northern Champagne Stakes by Kronos.•' Messrs. J. S. and W. E. Hazlett’s big team from Invercargill had seven individual winners, these being Astral Flame, Anglo-Irish, Colonel French, Colonel Rouge, Erinview, Noko, and Spendthrift, the last-mentioned being the only one which was not bred at the Hazlett s.tuL This team is one of the best the family colours have carried in years, anc. with such promising junipers as Spendthrift (who won the Great Western Steeples). Astral Flame, and Colonel French to represent them, the partnership should continue to prosper next season. Orelio was the star member of Mr. T. Impey's team, together with Borak and Cambria. The latter was one of the best two-year-olds in the Auckland province. It was unfortunate for Mr. J. H Grigg that he should lose Flashlight last August, as he promised to become one of our leading cross-country horses. He was compensated, however, when Streamline won the Great Northern Steeplechase for him, while on the same trip Arctic Dawn came into his own. with two good wins. In Leopardstown, too, Mr. Grigg has a promising juniper. All these horses won races for this popular sportsman this geason.

Mrs. IV. Richmond’s principal contributor to her total was Serenata, which won the New Zealand Cup in race-record time in November. Phyto, the second member of her team, was also successful during the season, though she hardly lived up to her breeding. Age may benefit this Foxbridge filly. Messrs. Davis, M.L.C., and O. Nichoison had Te Kawiti, Foxola, Heroic Star, River Plate, and Wharemanea to carry their colours this season, with Foxola the star member of the team, winning five races. In Wharemanea they hrive one of the most promising jumpers of the present season; he was a little unlucky not to win three races nt the Auckland carnival in June. His record for the season is three wins, a second, and a third, in six starts.
