Overcrowding Of Trams

Sir, —The statement by Mr. M. Cable, tramways manager, in Friday’s “Dominion” seems open to question, as does the recent statement of the mayor that owing to shortage of motormen and conductors no more trams could be put on at rush hours. Last night, Friday, just after 5 p.m., a tram with advertisements all over it advising that an art union was closing the following day was run along Lambton Quay and up Cuba Street, with motorman and conductor on board. Would it not lie better if these two men were running a passenger tram to relieve the overcrowding during the rush hours’—l am, etc., TRAM PASSENGER. Wellington, July 2G.
