A FULL PROGRAMME

Weekend Activities At A.N.A. Club

On Sunday evening, foundation girl members of the A.N.A. Club presented an attractive hula ballet, during the entertainment arranged for men on leave from the camps. The dancers wore attractive hula costumes and were trained by Miss Kathleen Farquhar, Miss Olive Thompson being the pianist. An Hawaiian orchestra offered its services and presented enjoyable numbers. Thanks were expressed by the soldiers to all the girls who had helped with entertainment during the weekend. The executive wishes to thank all donors of jam sent to the club in answer to the appeal last week and repeats that this commodity is always very acceptable. Country donations this week included hampers from noa Women’s Institute, per Miss S. A. Hanlon; Otaki Patriotic Emergency Committee, per Mrs. J. W. O’Halloran; Women’s National Welfare League, per Mrs. J. B. Carruthers; and also a large quantity of butter from the Masterton branch of the W.D.F.U. A considerable number of gramophone records from an anonymous soldier were received. The social side of the club continues to be active and the dances are as popular as ever with soldiers and members of the club. During the weekend members of the Forces assisted in providing many items for the dances during the supper adjournment. The members of the girls’ committee directing the dances were: Friday evening, the Misses Betty McLean and Vicki . Laurenson; Saturday evening, the Misses Patsy and Pam Ashbolt.

NATIONAL CLUB

There was a crowded attendance at the National Club, Wellington, go Saturday for the National Unipn’s popular tea dance, and the men of the services algo packed the club for Sunday's delicious hot dinners. Miss Rona Heinemann was the hostess on Saturday, and yesterday Miss T. Peckston was convener of a group of helpers from Wellington West.

CINDERELLA CLUB

The Cinderella Club rooms were well patronized by men of the forces at the weekend. On Friday evening Miss Hedel Bayne was in charge of dancing and games, and on Saturday night the informal dance was hostessed by Miss K. Crist. On Sunday a pleasant evening was arranged to farewell one of the club’s oldest supporters, who had been transferred, and featured on the programme were items given by Miss Nola Hyde and members of the Merchant Service. Other hostesses for the weekend were Misses Lorna Newbold, Alice Kelly and Patricia Cross. Several generous hampers were received at the weekend and the club is grateful to the donors.

CATHOLIC SERVICES CLUB

The Catholic Services Club was again largely used by members of the fighting services during the weekend The Saturday danee was patronized and ping-pong was popular. Eor those wishing to deal with their weekly correspondence, the reading and writing room was available. On Sunday night the Rt. Rev. Monsignor Connolly was present and spent some time talking with men recently invalided home and with others in training. The hostesses for the weekend were members of the Sacre Coeur Old Girls’ Association, who provided over the three days delightful home-cooked meals.
