Wellington & Silverstream

Considering the conditions, the display of football provided by Wellington Col* lege and Silverstream in the early game at Athletic Park on Saturday was a revelation to the large crowd which assembled for this annual fixture. As usual there was plenty of bunting and tulithroated hakas typical of a secondary school game, all of which, added an inspiring touch to the occasion. The result was a draw, O Connell scoring for Silverstream and D. F. Mason tor Wellington College. Late in the second spell Silverstream were awarded a penalty right under their opponents but the greasv- ball screwed right off the boot of the Silverstream captain, Addis, and went wide of the mark. . It was not long before the players became so mud-bespattered as to be alnios unrecognizable. The play was confined mainly to the forwards, where there was some reallv excellent football contested in a grand spirit with no give and take, but always elean and hard. Terntori ally Silverstream had slightly the better of the game. The general standard ot the play was such that there was .regret among the public that fine conditions had not prevailed to allow the boys to show their real worth. D. F. Mason and Barber were two excellent Wellington College backs and Doyle and Addis for Si.verstream. Of the forwards, who were difficult to distinguish, Sweetmau and Livingstone (Wellington College) mid Baker. Love and Foley (Silverstream) were grand toilers. After the game the chairman of the Wellington Rugby Union.’s management committee, Mr. j. N.
