COAL INDUSTRY IN AUSTRALIA

Control By Government

(Received July 27, 7.50 p.ra.) CANBERRA, July 27.

Regulations for Government control of the coal industry are expected to be gazetted soon. Existing private control will be retained but the Commonwealth will control prices and profits find direct work at all pits and fields. The regulations will be administered by a commissioner.

Federal officials said the Government was determined to ensure'continuity of production. The regulations had been withheld in the hope that the recently appointed reference boards would establish industrial peace on the coalfields. Serious stoppages at the mines and interruption in the loading of colliers, however, had made stronger measures necessary.

It was emphasized that workers in the industry would be fully protected.
