A SUMMARY OF THE SITUATION
The Duke of Aosta has accepted the British terms for the surrender of the Abyssinian mountain stronghold of Arriba Alagi. His own surrender is confirmed. ’ Presum-
iblv resistance in the two isolated areas to the south will continue.
Prospects in the Syria-Iraq theatre are still obscure, and there are numerous possibilities still open. The R.A.F. has continued to be active and has destroyed some of the few German aircraft at present in Iraq as well as attacking others. Greek aerodromes were effectively included in the many other targets of the R.A.F. bombers of the Middle East Command. The Germans have recaptured some heights near Solium. The British still control the fortress itself. At Tobruk the Australian* have regained strong points in the outer defences and are continually harrying the enemy.
The R.A.F. heavily raided Kiel on Sunday night and also attacked other objectives without losing any planes. German activity was slight.
