SON-IN-LAW TO PAY £700 DAMAGES
Woman’s Claim Succeeds
INJURED IN CAR DRIVEN BY DAUGHTER Dominion Special Service. PALMERSTON N„ October 25. A woman’s claim against her daughter’s husband for injuries received in a motor mishap was heard by a jury in the Supreme Court. Palmerston North. The daughter was the driver of a car which left the road and ended up in a creek bed. The mother was one of the passengers. Plaintiff 'was Florence Gillespie, widow. Otaki, and she sought to recover £lOOO general and £99 special damages. The husband of the daughter, Robert Gilmore Dowdall, garage foreman, Otaki, owner of the car, was named as defendant, it being alleged that it was at his suggestion that •plaintiff was taken for a drive by her daughter. Counsel for plaintiff contended that this, with the social obligation on the part of the husband to entertain visitors, was sufficient to con stitute his wife bls' agent. Mrs. Gillespie received Injuries to both knees and has been left permanently partially The jury awarded £6OO general and £99 special damages.
