LONDONERS’ LEAGUE

Second Meeting Held In

Wellington

FORMATION OF GROUPS

The second meeting of the Londoners’ League was held in Wellington this week, more than 90 people attending. Further progress wa« made in the formation of groups for assisting all Londoners affected by the war. The meeting is described as having been most enthusiastic.

The three main objects of the league are commemoration, perpetuation and dedication. A special membership has been created to commemorate the heroism of the bomb-disposal squad which saved St. Paul’s Cathedral. This will consist of one representative of each town from which the squad came. Should there not be a member available, a vacant chair will be kept at ail functions. By perpetuation the league intend to name its groups after famous London streets affected in air raids. By dedication the league will carry on the spirit of Londoners and endeavour to maintain that heroism in adversity by service to others, and combine in efforts to help to relict e the distress of Londoners and the rebuilding after the war.

The meeting passed a vote of thanks to Mr. A. B. Natusch for his work in advising the committee of the league in drawing up the constitution. Community singing was enjoyed and it was decided to make up Christmas parcels to send to London. A bunch of London pride was handed to the president, Mrs. K. C. Cresswelt; and a large photograph of the King and Queen was presented to the league. , Appreciation was expressed of the efforts of Mrs. G. G. C. Horny in connexion with the meeting. Many offers were received to form a musical group, which promises to be the largest group in the league.

Numerous new members were enrolled by the honorary secretary, Mrs. T. E. Harrington.
