Ewe Mutton Cheaper At ' Feilding

OTHER RATES MAINTAINED Dominion Special Service. FEILDING, October 4. Though tu-ere was a very light entry in all departments of the Feilding sale today the inquiry was strong and the competition keen. Prices held up well except for ewe mutton, which made lower rates. Very few wethers were on sale in the fat sheep section, tops bringing high prices.' Good hoggets also advanced 111 value. Extra prime wethers made 41/10 to 44/4, prime 33/1 to 30/1, unfinished 22/7 to 27/4; extra prime ewes 27/4 to 29/4, prime 24/10 to 26/8, light and unfinished 18/10 to 23/4; prime maiden ewes 36/10; extra prime hoggets 31/4 to 33/1, prime 25/4 to 27/10, light 20/10 to were in keen demand in the store section, wethers advancing about 2/- a head. Good ewe hoggets were also high priced. Best wether hoggets sold for 25/6 to 26/9, second quality 20/10 to 21/6; very good ewe hoggets 40/l; ewes and lambs 19/- to 20/-. Little change on last week s fair prices was shown for store cattle, all lines again selling readily, particularly yearling Jersey heifers. Good four and five-year A.A. steers made £O/6/-, three-year £7; forward two-year A.A. heifers ±7/12/-, two-year £5/16/-; A.A. yearling steers, •£4/10/-; A.A. cows £6/10/-; empty heifers £6/1/-; good yearling Jersey heifers £6/6/- to £7/1/6; light cows and calves £4/15/- to £6/10/-; works cows, heavy, to £5/2/-; wearier Jersey bulls £2/10/to £3/2/6; aged bulls £6/7/6 to £l3/15/-. The quality of the dairy cattle was not high but prices were nevertheless very strong, an acute shortage of milkers persisting. Best springing heifers brought £l2/15/-, second grade £B/o/- to £lO 5/-, backward £6/10/- to £7/10/-; heifers in milk £B/5/-; good springing cows £ll to £ll/10/-, others to £7/15/-; dairy bulls £9/10/- to £l5/15/-. Though light in weight beef met keen competition. Very few heifers were yarded but cows were in strong supply. Prime cows sold for £ll/17/6 to £l- - lighter prime £B/12/6 to_ £9/17/6, unfinished £5/12/6 to £7/15/-; light heifers £6/17/6;' light oxen £9/17/6 to £ll/7/6, unfinished £7/7/6 to £B/17/6; runners £4/10/- to £6/10/-; vealers £4 15/-. Another good market was shown for pigs. Weaners made 20/6 to 24/-; slips 26/- to 29/-; stores 31/6 to 38/6; porkers £2/8/- to £2/16/6 Poultry prices were: Hens 2/3 to 4/9, cockerels 2/9; turkey hens 5/3, gobblers 10/6.

Fat Sheep Prices Improve At Dannevirke DANNEVIRKE, October 3. There was a very small yarding, of stoek at today’s sale at Dannevirke. Though the attendance was not large fat sheep elicited good competition and sold above last week’s values. In the store section there was not a great deal or competition. Cattle sold well up x to late rates. Prices: — , ~ , Sheep: Fat ewes 24/6 to 33/-; fat hoggets 28/3 to 30/-; wether hoggets 23/to 24/-; ewes and lambs, in poor condition, 10/6. . , Cattle: Fat dairy cows £5 to £6; light fat P.A. cows £6/12/6 to £7/10/-; dairy cows £lO/15/- to £l2/10/-, others £7 to £8; dairy' hejfers £9/15/-; yearling, Jersey heifers £5/1/-. Pigs and Poultry. There was a full yarding of both pigs and poultry in R. Roake and Son s yards. Prices for both maintained last weeks values. Quotations:--Pigs: Very small weaners 10/- to 10/-, small 16/- to 19/-, medium 20/- to 21/-, best to 29/6; light porkers 32/- to 34/-. Poultry: Five-weeks roosters 1/- to il/4; cockerels 3/- to 4/-; 8.0. and heavy hens 3/- to 3/7; ducks 3/5; yearling hens 4/10; roosters 2/6 to 3/6; hen and lb 8.0. chicks 22/-.

Pig Market Easier At Woodville Sale WOODVILLE, October 4. Small yardings were offered in all sections at the Woodville stock sale this week. The specially advertised line of bullocks on account of R. J. Holden, sold readily at up to £l4. Fat cows ex dairy met with quite a free sale throughout, at values fully firm on those ruling at other recent sales. A yarding of only fair quality dairy cows was submitted, values being in accordance with quality. A small yarding of empty cows ex dairy met sound competition throughout. A large yarding of pigs was submitted, comprised principally weaners, and for these the market was considerably easier than has been the case for the past four weeks. Several pens of fat hoggets •old at full market rates. Quotations:— Cattle: Fat bullocks, £l4; fat cows ex dairy, £6 to £B/5/-; springing cows, £7 10/- to £lO/10/-; springing Jersey heifers, £7 to £9/9/-; empty two-year Jersey heifers, nice quality, £6. Pigs: Stores, 28/- to 35/-; good weaners, 15/- to 25/-; small, 8/- to 12/6; fat hoggets, 2£/~ to 25/6; ewe hoggets, 28/to 29/6.

Porker Pigs Keenly Sought At Palmerston North Sale PALMERSTON N., October 4. An exceptionally heavy yarding of pigs was offered at the weekly auction in Palmerston North. Wenners and stores were a little easier in price, but porkers were keenly sought, commanding keen competition from a full bench of buyers. Poultry came forward in large quantities, heavy hens realizing 5/6 each and young ducks to 6/-. Quotations:— Pigs: Best wcaners, 24/- to 26/-; medium, 20/- to 22/6; small to backward, 16/6 to 19/-; slips, to 35/-; heavy stores, 40/- to 44/-; medium, 34/- to 39/-; heavy porkers, £3 to £3/3/-; medium, £2/10/- to £2/19/-; sows and litters, £7/10/- to £9/10/-; boars, to 34gns.; empty sows, to £2/10/-. Poultry: Heavy hens, 5/- to 5/6; best W.L. hens. 4/- to 4/7; light hens, 3/- to 3/6; heavy cockerels, 4/- to 4/6; spring cockerels, 6d. to 2/9: young ducks, 5/to 6/-; old ducks, 3/6 to 4/-; gobblers, to 9/6; hens and chicks, to 10/6.
