TONIGHT’S BOXING

Gildo v. Rayner Again

Followers of boxing in Wellington tonight should enjoy a rare treat, when Young Gildo, the "Filipino Flash,” and Clarrie Rayner, Blenheim, will meet in the Town Hall in a professional lightweight contest over 15 three-minute rounds. These men have proved themeelves. to be the outstanding professional lightweights in the Dominion this season, and both have notable victories to their credit. They boxed a stirring draw in I‘ahnerstor North recently, and it will be extremely interesting to see the, outcome of this ciash between two scientific boxers who have speed, science and punching power at their command. Young Gildo. whose baptismal name, by the way, is Kermanitgildo Baguio, is a boxing marvel. Leaving his native home in the Philippine Islands as a lad of 17, he has been boxing ever since, and. though only 2S years of age. he has already engaged in some 430 prolessionnl contests. He was a great favourite hi Australia, where he has had some •>! contests, with only four defeats. Clarrie Rayner is boxing better today than at any period of iiis distinguished career, and that lie can punch ho proved in the Wellington Town Hall recently, when he put Jackie Sharpe to sleep haltway through the second round. The contest tonight should be full of action. Amateur bouts wiii precede the professional contest.
