STRIKE IN TEXTILE FACTORY
Statement By President
Of Union
Dominion Special Service. FOXTON, January 20. Expressing concern that statements which he described as misleading had appeared in the Press regarding the recent trouble at the textile factory, Mr. H. Podmore, president of the Flax and Textile Workers’ Union, stated that one man, not five, as reported, had been dismissed when tire 5 p.m. to midnight shift ceased work. These workers considered that this man, who had been their only male witness in the Court of Arbitration last November, had been victimized. The statement that loss of wages through stoppages had cost the workers £240 this year inferred that this was the amount these workers lost in the recent hold-up of two days’ duration, said Mr. Podmore. The amount of £9OO in sterling funds considered necessary to replace packs lost through stoppage would not be required, as stocks ou hand, together with the present production, would meet the needs of the current year.
