SAILORS’ PLAINT

Greeting Torpedoes For Hitler Not Used (Received January 5, 9.20 p.m.) BUENOS AIRES. January I. Amid the general celebration of the victory over the Admiral Grat Spec one of the Achilles’ New Zealand ratings expressed keen disappointment at one phase of the battle. He explained that, when the order was given to stand by to release torpedoes he hurriedly wrote on the heads of four torpedoes,."Greetings to Herr Hitler,” but Ajax manoeuvred in between, preventing Achilles loosing her torpedoes. However, two ratings, Brush and Weston, were winners of Captain Parry's one sovereign premium lor sighting an enemy warship, and were thoroughly happy. They said they were keeping them permanently as souvenirs.
