Mr. SAVAGE’S COMMENT
Bible Class Attitude To War “In plain English that means that the conference suggests that no action in respect to the war should be taken at all,” said the Prime Minister, Mr. Savage, when commenting yesterday on the motions carried at the convention of the Methodist Young Men’s Bible Class movement. s What was the country expected to do? Mr. Savage asked. The war was being fought to determine whether the British Empire should 'have ■ a life worth living or become part and parcel of Germany, with no right to govern The attitude conveyed by the resolutions was selfish and would not stand investigation for live minutec. BIBLE CLASS RESOLUTION RESENTED (To the Editor.) Sir, —Reported in your issue of January 3 was the result of two motions put to the annual convention of the Methodist Young Men’s Bible Class Movement. Both motions, which were passed, were in favour of non-military service, and as such made regrettable reading. Writing as an- ex-soldier and sou of a Methodist minister, I would like to enter .my emphatic protest to such an ignoble attitude as 'displayed by these Methodist youths. However, the sight of those grand young men of the First Echelon, as they made their farewell parade today, at. least, proves that not all New Zealand youths are prepared to shelter under the cloak of religion.— 1 am, etc., M ETHODIST. Lower Hutt, January 3.
