WOODEN BUILDING DAMAGED
Fire In Wallace Street Extensive damage occurred to a two-storied building at 77 Wallace Street when fire broke out there shortly before 6 p.m. yesterday. The building is a shop with living quarters above it. Two engines from the Central Fire Station and one from the Constable Street Station attended the blaze. The fire had started in a storeroom at the back of the building on the ground floor and had travelled up a staircase in the centre. Three leads of hose were run out and the flames were extinguished after about 15 minutes. In addition to the damage to the building done by fire and water, slight damage was done to weather boards on an adjoining house. The .cause of the fire is not known. A second call was rcceive’d by the Fire Brigade at 9.27 p.m., this ti,me to a taxi which was on fire at the corner of Willis Street and Gbuznee Street. Three engines from the Central Station attended. The car was only slightly damaged.
