PUNTERS PROTEST
Demonstration On Stratford Racecourse NUMBERS CHANGED THREE TIMES By Telegraph—Press Association. NEW PLYMOUTH, January 2. The biggest demonstration seen on a racecourse in Taranaki occurred at Stratford today after the Toko Highweight Handicap had been run. A large crowd gathered round the judge’s box and protested against Ihe decision given by the judge, Mr. C. 11. 'Washer, and did not disperse till three changes in the numbers had been made. In an exciting finish Te Hai and Prince Rangi passed the post together, Tosh just heading Gay Seton. 'When the numbers went up Te Hai’s was missing, and his supporters begun to surge to the judge’s box. The corrected numbers showed To Hai third, and the protest continued. When the numbers were lowered and hoisted again Prince Rangi was not place'd, and as he was the favourite the crowd grew larger till two officials of the club entered the box and the numbers were hoisted a fourth time, showing a deadheat between Prince Rangi and Te Hai, with Tosh third and Gay Seton fourth.
