SPEEDBOAT FOR WAR

New British Torpedo Craft LONDON, July 28. A new motor torpedoboat specially adaptable to coastal defence work in the Dominions underwent official trials by the Admiralty at Southampton Water. It covered a measured mile at 46.5 knots, which is claimed to be a record for this type of craft. It has fast acceleration and great manoeuvring ability and is unusually silent. It has a range of a thousand miles and a length of 65 feet over all, and is armed with two torpedo tubes, depth charges, machine-guns, an automafic cannon, and smoke screen apparatus, and costs £45,000. The vessel carries a crew of only six. Her beam is 15 feet and the displacement 30 tons. A feature of the design in which she differs from similar craft already in service is the provision of two propellers instead of three.
