"ALICE IN SWINGLAND"

The characters which Alice met 'both in “Wonderland” and “Through the Looking Glass” gathered with one accord in "Swingland” on Saturday night, when the Wellington Swing Club held a Mad Hatter’s Party. Phyllis Oliver's studio was the .scene of the revelry, and queerly-garbed dancers arrived to be greeted with “Welcome’’ written crazily in playing cards at the entrance to the dance floor.' Alice, the Mad Hatter, Knaves, Kings and Queens of Hearts, Tweedledum and Tweedledee, all were there, and a party of overseaa swingfans was present. Continuing the novel theme, supper took the form of a mad tea party, with bitten-at sandwiches liberally besprinkled with hundreds and thousands, and other foods from Lewis Carroll's classic.

Swing music was provided by the Swing Club Foursome, with radio and gramophone recordings interspersed. The committee responsible for the party were Misses Pam Alexander, Nola Duthie and Messrs. Lindsay R. Constable, Peter Reuai, Lindsay Alexander and Ken Lawn. Before the dance a cocktail party for members of the Swing Club committee and orchestra was given by Mr. Noel Hoggard.
