GAY COSTUMES

Women Of Many Nations Confer Many of the delegates attending the opening meeting in London of the Countrywomen of the World Conference wore their beautiful national costumes, in nearly all of which red was used effectively, says "The Manchester Guardian.” Russia was not represented, but Scandinavia and the Baltic States sent decorative delegations, their national costumes elaborately embroidered. The Latvian women wore scarlet skirts, white blouses, black embroidered waistcoats, crown-shaped jewelled headdresses an antique silver ornaments. A delegate from Yugoslavia wore a costume of the embroidered linen for which her country is famous, and a handsome Greek completed her costume with a red velvet sleeveless jacket and a cap with an embroidered veil.

The Norwegians wore the blue costume and hign cap trimmed with bauds of white and red adopted by the Norwegian Housewives’ Association of Rural and Urban Women, which works for child welfare; others wore the national countrywomen’s costume of red, white and black. Compared with these 1 right dresses, those from the United States and all parts of the British Empire looked drab. Scotland might have come to the rescue, but it was left to. a delegate from Eire to look picturesque in a gre ( n gown and a grey cape with a splash of embroidery on the shoulder.
