STREET WORKS
Progress In Wellington
Thanks to the use of the mechanical paver, work with bituminous Lot mix on Wellington streets has been continued during the recent cold weathei. Formerly suclt work had to be done in warm weather. Good progress has been made with the paving of the section of Waterloo Quay between 'Whitmore Street and Bunny Street on tlie railway side of the quay. A central strip of the road is disrupted by the laying of the new tracks between the two streets mentioned, but that work will not delay the opening of the southern end or Waterloo Quay in about a weeks tune, if the weather is favourable. At present all inward-bound traffic has to diverge from Waterloo Quay into Bunny Street, and so into Featherston Street, in order to reach the city. but that circuitous route will not be necessary once this section of the quaj is paved. Tlie new tramway connexion will enable cars to reach the railway station (Bunny Street) without first traversing either Featherston Street or Lambton Quay, and it means a quicker getaway for south-bound trams from the station when that is needed od is# days.
