TABLE TENNIS
Visit Of World Champion Players SZABADOS AND KELEN M. Szabados and T. Kelen, the world champion table tennis players, will play in Wellington on Thursday night, August 17. The Town Hall is not available, and the Wellington Table Tennis Association has obtained the Boys’ Institute Building, Tasman Street, for the occasion. Szabados and Kelen have been travelling extensively during the last four years. Because of this, they have been absent from world championship competition since 1936. In 1937 Australia and New Zealand were included in their itinerary on their world tour for that year. They will come to New Zealand from the Dutch East Indies, after a tour through India, Burma, Siam, and French Indo-China. , While in New Zealand last Kelen said: “We did not come here to beat New Zealand players, but we are here to do our best for them. The sport comes first There is no beaten or unbeaten, it is only sport, and we promise to do our best for you.” Canterbury Championship. The programme for the Canterbury table tennis championship, in Christchurch, for Tuesday. August 8. to Saturday, August 12. has been arranged. Entries will close at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, August 1, with the secretary, J. H. Saville, 127 Armagh Street. There are four grade championships—A, B, C, ana D.
