By Telegraph—Press Association.
AUCKLAND, July 28.
Mr. A. G. Stephenson, principal of the Melbourne firm of Stephenson and Turner, consultant architects to the Wellington Hospital Board, arrived by fhe Awatea. Mr. Stephenson said he was going to Wellington, where he already has two representatives, to discuss final plans for the new main Wellington Hospital block, work on the excavations of which has already started. It was expected that tenders would be called iu October, closing early in November. The estimated contract price was between £400,000 and £500,000. He also proposed to discuss matters connected with the new boiler-house and installation at Wellington and the £435,000 Hutt Valley Hospital scheme, which was now awaiting approval of the Health Department. The firm has been appointed, subject to the approval of the Health Department, joint architects with Mr. R. Farrell, Auckland, for the Auckland Hospital rebuilding project, and Mr. Stephenson conferred with the chairman of the Auckland Hospital Board, Mr. Allan Moody. At the invitation of the Council of the International Hospitals’ Association, Mr. Stephenson will proceed from New Zealand to Toronto to read a paper on aspects of hospital architecture in September. He will leave Auckland by the Aorangi on August 8. Mr. Stephenson will subsequently make investigations into the latest hospital developments in the United States of America and Europe, and expects to return in February.
