INTRODUCTION OF THREE NEW MEASURES
The first division this session was taken in the House of Representatives last night on the no-confidence ne^< tl llie " xd , l by the Leader of the Opposition, Mr- Hamilton, to Address in-Renlv motion. The amendment was lost by 45 votes to ZA The X was on s.rietly party linos. Mr. Atmore ( Nelson) voting with the Government and 1 - pendent, Egmont) with the Opposition. After the division the mover of the Address-in-Reply motion Mr. Macfarlane (Government Christchurch South), rephed bneflj to the debate, which has extended over four weeks. Three measures were introduced and read a first time. 1 ley were the Hire Purchase Agreements Bill, which gives a greater degree of protection to purchasers of goods under the hue purchase system; the Property Law Amendment Bill, which makes it obligatory for a mortgagee to give at least one month s notice befo exercising powers of sale or entry into possession ot mortgaged land • and the Legitimation Bill, which provides for the immediate legitimation of the children of unmarried parents on the subsequent marriage of the parties. The Minister of Education, Mr. Fraser, was again charge of proceedings in the House in the absence of the Prime Minister, Mr. Savage, who was still slightly indisposed.-. The House adjourned at 9.50 p.m. till today following Mr. Macfarlane s reply to the Address-in-Reply debate. Before the adjournment was taken Mr. Fraser announced that Ministerial answers to questions would be circulated and discussed in the House today.
