SHARP ECONOMIC FRICTION
Nazi Penetration In Rumanian Area LONDON, July 26. A message from Bucharest states that leading Rumanians in Timisoara, capital of the province of Banat, adjoining Hungary, presented a petition of 100 pages to the Government urging immediate action to prevent the German majority in the province strangling the Rumanian population economically. The German population of the province is 250.000. Reuters’ correspondent in Bucharest says that the Germans throughout the province have been organized by the Nazi Party and have their own Storm Troops and Black Guards formations, which are supervising a complete boycott of Rumanian traders. Timisoara has become the headquarters of the German minority in Rumania. From there the social and commercial life of Germans is ordered, and those who refuse to join the organization are forced out of business. Seven Nazi newspapers throughout Banat province are participating in a German Press campaign against Britain. Rumania has refused a German request for a free zone around Bega Canal, from Timisoara to Hungary, because of the strategic importance of the area.
