Victoria University College Council

ELECTION OF DR. T. D. M. STOUT

Dr. T. D. M. Stout, Wellington, was elected chairman of the Victoria University College Council at the annual meeting last night. He succeeds Mr. E. P. Levi, who has retired from the council. There was only one nomination.

Mr. H. A. Parkinson, who nominated Dr. Stout, said the new chairman had been a member of the council for many years and was a representative on the Senate. Mr. Parkinson added that he was sure Dr. Stout would make an admirable chairman. Dr. Stout said he felt it was a great honour to be elected to the office of chairman. His family had been associated with the college off and on for a good many years, and for that reason he would probably feel the honour even more. Dr. Stout added that he was following on a chairman beloved by all and assured the council he would endeavour to do his best.

Mr. T. Forsyth, also nominated by M/. Parkinson, was re-elected deputychairman. Mr. Parkinson said Mr. Forsyth was a very esteemed member of the council and had satisfactorily fl.led the office of deputy-chairman for some years.

The chairman welcomed new members and said the ciuncil was very fortunate ! n having the services of men with such wide educational experience in the Wellington district as Mr. W. A. Armour, headmaster -of Wellington College. Mr. W. V. Dyer, chairman of the Wellington Education Board, and Mr. L. W. McKenzie, chairman of the Wellington Technical College Board of Governors. The chairman also welcomed Mr. M. M. F. Luckle, who has been elected to the council. A further new member, Mr. W. P. Rollings, sent an apology for non-attendance because he was indisposed. The council now consists of Dr. Stout (chairman), Sir Thomas Hunter (principal), Mr Justice Smith, Professor F. F. Miles, and Messrs. W. A. Aimour, F. L. Combs, W. V. Dyer, S. Eichelbaum, T. Forsyth, M. M. F. L tickle. H. F. O’Leary, K.C., H. F. Oram, H. A. Parkinson. W. P. Rollings, R. S. V. Simpson, and L. W. McKenzie. Mr. Justice Smith, who was delayed in Dunedin because of the weather, sem an apology for non-attendance. The following committees were appointed - Weir House management: Sir Thomas Hunter (chairman), Dr. Stout, Professor Gould, and Messrs. Simpson, Rollings and Eichelbaum. House committee: Sir Thomas Hunter (convener), and Messrs. Forsyth, McKenzie. Dyer, Simpson, Combs and Paikinson.

Sarah Ann Rhodes Fellowship: Sir Thomas Hunter, Mr. Justice Smith, Dr. Stout and Messrs. Miles and Armour. Mr. Justice Smith and Mr. Rollings were appointed to the special legal committee for investigation on the question of the vacant Chair of Law.
