TE RAPA TRACKS
Beau Repaire And Olympus Dominion Special Service HAMILTON. July 27. Though the weather was bright and sunny, a cold bleak wind made for rather unpleasant conditions at Te Rapa this morning, when the No. 2 grass was available for the little fast work attempted The greater part of the morning's activity was confined to strong pace tasks on the sand. Olympus and Beau Repaire, who are due to leave here on Wednesday to connect with the steamer from Wellington for Australia, worked over a couple of rounds and sprinted home the final three furlongs of their work. Both are in splendid condition to contest engagements on the other side. They will be in charge of a stable hand, J. Hill, and will accompany F. lones's pair. Royal Chiei and Moorsotis. Four boxes in J. Careys stable at Randwiek have been booked to accommodate them. Ellanui will leave by float on Thursday for Christchurch and will be accompanied by Jewelled Girdle, who is also filling engagements at the Grand National meeting. Ellanui is to have the services ot 0. Mclnaily, but as yet no rider has been engaged for Jewelled Girdle. This morning Ellanui worked usefully over a couple o rounds ami Jewelled Girdle was schooled over two pony fences at the back of the course. Both are looking in forward condition for racing. A dashing exhibition of jumping was provided by Little Briton (J. Shadkey I and British Sovereign (A. Gilmer) over five fences of the steeplechase country. Starting at the brush fences by the sevenfurlong post, they were practically on terms over the balance of the journey, the sod wall at the half-mile, the brush near the three-furlong peg and the sod wall at the foot of the straight. In the run home British Sovereign had the measure of bis companion. Both horses, who recently qualified with the Waikato Hunt, gave an impressive showing and should be in great heart , for racing at the Pakuranga Hunt next month. , , Dark Rose (Brady) jumped four pony fences with the pace on and came through his task in satisfactory style. Stansted, looking improved in condition, was worked usefully over a couple oi rounds. , . ~ N. R. McKenzie will be riding at the Manawatu Hunt on Saturday, where his mounts will include Donegal. A. J. Julian has in the course of early education two likely rising two-year-olds, both colts, one by Hall Mark from Legality and the other by Foxbridge from Comedienne.
