Newt, And Notes From Town And Country Long Record Of Service. At the monthly meeting of the Alexandra Home committee, reports were received from the matron of the Girls’ Home and the Hospital >f work’done during the past month. Miss Julius reported the success of all the 13 nurses who sat for their maternity examination. Donations from the following were gratefully acknowledged:—York Bay Sewing Circle, Two Friends and Mrs. Martin. It was pointed out that the Alexandra Home, which had Its beginnings in a building in Taranaki Street in 1879. would in December complete its sixtieth year of work for the community, having continuously given shelter and protection to girls from all parts of the Dominion, and had done everything possible to provide both them and their children with hopeful futures.

Manawatu Hunt Ball. Always one of the biggest and most enjoyable social affairs of the season in the Manawatu, the Hunt Bail will this year be held in the Kiwitea Hail on Tuesday next, August 1. Many guests are expected from surrounding districts and Wellington for the occasion. Picture Party and Dancing.

An enjoyable evening was recently spent by about 60 members of the Eng-lish-Speaking Union Younger Circle and their friends when the committee arranged a picture party.
