SLOW SCORING

Second Cricket Test Drawn LATE DECLARATION | By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. LONDON, July 25. The second cricket Test match in Manchester between England and the West Indies, in which play was limited to about two days, ended in a draw. England made 164 for seven wickets, declared, and 128 for six, declared. West Indies replied with 133 in the first innings and 43 for four wickets. At the resumption of play this morning, the visitors had made 85 for three wickets and the remaining wickets fell before lunch. The most successful batsman was Headley, who scored a half-century. During England’s second innings the slow scoring caused the crowd to become restive. Even Hammond was uninspiring, but runs were not easy to get against the excellent bowling. If the innings had been declared at the tea adjournment England might have won the match, as the 50 minutes which would have been saved would probably have been sufficient to get West Indies out the second time. All the English bowlers had the batsmen in troubles and Bowes, in particular. gave a splendid performance with the ball in both innings. He took six for 33 and one for 13. Details: — ENGLAND.
