NEW BLOCKADE BY JAPAN?
Concessions On The Canton River ARMY ATTITUDE IN TIENTSIN By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. LONDON, July 25. It is reliably stated in Hong Kong that the Japanese navy will blockade the- Canton River and the British and French concessions around there on July 27. Sentries will guard the entrances to both bridges to Shameen Island and will patrol coastal waters. A Tientsin message says that the Japanese army spokesman declared that the blockade of Tientsin would continue until the British gave concrete evidence of their intention to carry out the Tokio agreement. The Japanese Consul-General at Hong Kong denies that the Japanese intend to close the Canton River and blockade Shameen. THROUGHOUT CHINA Application Of Formula (Received July 26, 11.50 p.m.) TOKIO, July 26. The Foreign Office spokesman declared that Japan interprets the AngloJapanese agreement as applying throughout. China, and not. merely to the occupied areas. SHANGHAI TRADERS Bitter Condemnation SHANGHAI, July 25. The British Chamber of Commerce has telegraphed to London bitterly condemning the Tokio agreement, which exposes the continued existence of British trade to the whims of the Japanese military authorities. . The Japanese-controlled political partj r has instructed its Shansi, Shantung, Hopeh and Honan branches to tighten up the British boycott and increase their demonstrations.
