COUNTY CLERKS
Record Attendance At Conference There was a record attendance at the biennial conference of the New Zealand Institute of County Clerks, which was held in Wellington on Tuesday. Eighty-three members were present. The conference was opened by the Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr. Parry. Mr. F. B. Stephens, Department of Internal Affairs, addressed the conference on the proposed institute of local government officers.
In the evening a dinner was held in the Grand Hotel, Mr. C. J. Talbot, pre; sident of the New Zealand Counties’ Association, Mr. W. Marshall, president of the New Zealand County Councils’ Industrial Union of Employers, and Messrs. A. G. Harper and F. B. Stephens, Department of Internal Affairs, were the guests of the institute at the dinner. The election of officers resulted: President, Mr. F. H. Hudson (Horowhenua) ; vice-presidents, Messrs. G. Kelly (Ashburton) ; E. Ashcroft (Manakau) ; secretary and treasurer, Mr. J. W. Harding (Hawera) ; auditor, Mr. G. Darbyshire (Wanganui); executive council, Messrs. B. A. Mahoney (Hauraki Plains), C. L. J. Campbell (Stratford), D. Crooks (Dannevirke), L. J. Collins (Waimate), D. J. Evans (Hokitika), 11. C. Gimblett (Invercargill), and H. H. Richardson (Rangitikei).
