PATRONAL FESTIVAL
A very large number of parishioners of St. James’s Church, Lower Hutt, attended the social and dance held at St. James’s Hall last night, in connexion with the annual patronal festival. Before the social evening, a service was conducted in the church by the Rev. Mr. Holland. The stage of the hall was bright with bowls of red and orange berries and the hall warmed by glowing beaters. During the evening, Mr. G. L. Gieson, the people's warden, presented Mrs. H. E. Leighton with a tangible appreciation of her services in organizing the annual garden party held in aid of the church. This organization entails a great amount of work, for the garden party is one of the outstanding social events of the year at the Hutt. Songs were contributed by Mrs. I. E. Hubbard and Warwick Keen, and the evening passed pleasantly in conversation, dancing and games. Supper was served by a committee, convened by Mesdames A. Jarman, C. G. Hedge and B. Griffiths. Mr. C. G. Hedge was the master of ceremonies, and the churcr orchestra, which included Messrs. G. Roberts, It. Clark and F. W. Tarrant, provided the music.
