BURGLARY AT PETONE McKenzie Baths Entered A small sum of money belonging to the I’etone Amateur Swimming and Lifesaving Club was stolen by burglars who broke into the McKenzie Baths, tidy Street, I’etone, on Thursday. The baths were locked up at 8.15 p.m. on Thursday night at the conclusion of a meeting held by the I’etone club., In the morning the caretaker, Mr. F. IV. 11. Ashman, found that the door of his office had been broken open, apparently with a pick which was found near by. The lock was broken off, and a cupboard in the office had been forced open. In the office were a number of articles which could have been taken, but which had not been disturbed. A sura of 18/-, the property of the club, was missing. It was subscriptions of club members collected at the baths. , . , . Mr. Ashman said he believed the thieves were seeking the day’s takings, which were particularly good because of the hot weather. Fortunately .that money had been removed by Mr. Ashman. GLADIOLUS & DAHLIA SHOW Many Applications For Space Applications for space at the Hutt Valley Horticultural Society’s gladioli and dahlia show, to be held on February 15, were considered at a meeting of the show committee recently. The show promises to be one of the best ever held in the Hutt Valley in midsummer. A feature will be a large stand of begonias which will include varieties not previously seen in' New Zealand. Space in the gladiolus section has been written for from Wanganui and Christchurch. Dahlias are sure to be shown in large numbers, as some of the leading growers and importers of new varieties have asked for space. Palmerston North and Feiluing nurserymen, as well as Lower Hutt nurserymen, will make displays. Hydrangeas are always a feature of the show, and there should be some excellent exhibits in this section. HUTT TECHNICAL SCHOOL Resignation Of Director
