COVENT GARDEN RUSSIAN BALLET
Wellington -people will soon have the opportunity of seeing the Covent Garden Russian Ballet. The season will be of 11 nights, February IS to March 2, and the company of dancers will present the same brilliant programmes, wearing the same costumes, and with the same gorgeous scenery as was used in Coveut Garden, London. The company is under the direction of Victor Dandrc. His co-director is. Mr. German Scvastianov, born of a distinguished theatrical family, ami nephew of the great Stanislawsky, who was foundder of the Moscow Arts 'Theatre. With Serge Grigorieff in charge of actual production, this strong -board ensures smooth working and the maximum of efficiency. Of the dancers, names like Irina Baronovn, Tatiana Riabotichinska, Anton Dolin, David Lichine, Paul Petroff, Tamara Grigorieva echo in the mind as the greatest gathering of principal dancers today, ami Baronova, exquisitely beautiful and peerless technician, Riabouchinskn, dancing for the love of it, Anton Dolin. a veteran of dancing, though not in years, David Lichine, most, -promising choreographer, and Paul Petroff. gallant dancer and the world’s best .partner, give some indication of the towering-strength of this company. The beauty of tbe ballets and the glory of the orchestra, a full symphony, under th baeton of Antal Dorati, would assure pedrforrnances of merit. The first programme will include, the ballots: “Carnaval,” “The Swanlake,” and “Cinderella.”
