MISSING AMERICANS IN RUSSIA
Possibility Of Espionage New York, December 16. An unusual turn ha_s been given to the case of Mr. Donald Robin_son, described as an American writer, and his wife, who were reported missing from Moscow. The United States Embassy had reported to Washington that it had been unable to obtain information from the Soviet authorities as to the whereabouts of Mr. and Mrs. Robinson, and an immediate reply was demanded from the Soviet Foreign Office by the American State Department. Disclosures have now been made indicating the possibility of espionage. A feature of the State Department’s announcement is that the Robinsons fraudulently obtained their passports by using the names of two infants who have been dead for 20 years. These were copied from tombstones. The couple thus had no difficulty in obtaining the birth certificates necessary for the issue of passports.
It is indicated, moreover, that they probably were not even American citizens, and were possibly involved in Trotskyite activities.
