TWO YEARS ABROAD

Christchurch Doctor Returns EXTENSIVE TRAVELS After ir tour of Englund. Switzerland, South Africa, and Canada lasting nearly two years, Dr. Thomas Mill, C.M.G., 0.8. E., Christchurch, well known throughout New Zealand for his work in diseases of the ear, nose, and throat, returned to Wellington by the Rangitane. He was accompanied by his wife. Dr. Mill had much of interest to impart about his travels. During his tour of South Africa he visited the Johannesburg Exhibition, where the New Zealand court was very favourably commented on by the large numbers who visited it.

In Switzerland. Dr. Mill spent a great deal,of his time at Zurich, where he had the privilege of working for a time under Professor Nager, one of the world's celebrities in the practice of ear, nose, and throat surgery. A charming man, who spoke English fluently, he bad frequently visited America on lecturing tours. Dr. Mill said. His wife and six children also spoke English, and his eldest daughter was about to marry an Englishman. ( “Apart from the wonderful scenery,' he continued, "what impressed me most was the number of rifle clubs. An amazing total, they form .part of the Swiss military service. The country is really divided into three parts—German. Italian, and French. Lach has its characteristics. We saw most of the German section and were greatly impressed by their neatness and cleanliness.”

Dr. Mill’s visit to Canada included a stay in Alberta, where he found an explosive situation caused by the almost unbelievably bitter feeling on the Social Credit question. The Premier, Mr. Aberliart. had lost at least two bv-elections, and one of the Government whips, Mr. Unwin, had been recently sentenced to three months’ hard labour for publishing a pamphlet, in which he advocated violence against his opponents. Another man, one of the Government’s advisers on Social Credit, had been on trial on a similar charge when the doctor left England.
