ELECTRICAL COURT AT EXHIBITION

Objection To Allocation

Of Cost

Dominion Special Service.

Carterton, December 16.

The following resolution was carried at a meeting of the Wairapara Electric Power Board to-day:—

(1) That this board generally approves and agrees to support the proposal to establish an electrical court at the New Zealand Centennial Exhibition, 1940.

(2) That the Power Boards’ Association be advised that the board does not approve of or agree to the proposed allocation of cost, and recommends to the association (a) that owing to the very substantial benefit which the Wellington City Council will gain, both directly and indirectly, and taking into account the amount of its annual revenue, the amount of the Wellington City Council’s annual contribution lie increased from £250 to £400; (b) that taking into account the very large revenue received by the Auckland Power Board, Auckland’s annual contribution be increased from £2OO to £350; (c) that the extra amount so gained be used to reduce proportionately the contributions of the. other power boards and towns.

Air. S. Dalgliesh said he considered the proportions xvere not right. Wellington was to pay £750, spread over three years, and the Wairarapa’s contribution was £l5O over three years. Auckland, too, he thought, should pay on an increased percentage. It was the principle more than the amount involved as far as Wairarapa was concerned. The chairman, Air. A. C. Pearce, said he agreed with Air. Dalgleish. Wellington Electricity Department was going to get all the direct benefit from the exhibition, from its trams, all the extra lighting, and increased load generally.
