Inspector’s Method Of Entering Property

Lawry, S.M., in the Magistrates’ Court, Lower Hutt, yesterday, to Inspector Smith, of the Lower Hutt Borough Council, who, it was stated by Robert C. Horwell, had come into his place over the back fence and given Mrs. Horwell such a fright that she had to spend several days in bed. Expansion at College. Speaking at the annual break-up ceremony of the Hutt Valley Memorial Technical College at Petonc yesterday, Mr. W. B. Nicholson, chairman of the. board of management, in thanking the Government for its interest in technical education, said that the expansion at the college was such that even more grants would be sought, as the cookery classroom and the workshops, .notably, were becoming cramped. He pointed out that at present there were 702 pupils in all classes Two or three years ago there were about 300.

Popular Court Clerk. A’ fully representative gathering ot members' of the legal profession of the Hutt Valley met at the Lower Hutt courthouse yesterday and presented Mr. Derek Knight, clerk in court and secretary to the Hutt (Urban) Adjustment Commission, with a tea set as an expension of goodwill on the occasion of his approaching marriage to Miss B. E. Aitchison, Petone. Mr. W. P. Coles made the presentation to Mr. Knight and expressed the esteem in which he held by the profession.

Inter-house Shield. At the -annual break-up ceremony of the Hutt Memorial Technical College at Petone yesterday. Mr. D. McEwen, president of the parents’ association, presented a beautifully-inlaid shield to the college on behalf of the association for inter-house competition. In accepting the shield, the principal, Mr. McFadyen, acknowledged the indebtedness of the college to the parents’ association for its keen and practical interest in the welfare of the college.
