"Five To Seven" Party For Mr. and Mrs. Falla

Mr. N. S. Falla, chairman and managing director of the Union Steam Ship Company of New Zealand, Limited. and Mrs. Falla, who have just’ returned to Wellington from a trip to Great Britain, were guests of honour at a “five to seven” party given yesterday by Mr. and Airs. IV. M. Clarr.v at their home in Hobson Street. The guests were entertained in the drawing-room and the diningroom. in both of which were masses of sweet peas ami roses. During the serving of cocktails and sherry and their accompanying savoury those present took the opportunity to welcome Air. and Airs. Falla back to Wellington and to hear about their trip abroad.

Mrs. James Payne Entertains

Alt*. James Payne, who with her husband will leave for Cairo in the not too distant future, asked a number of her friends to her home tn Central Terrace, yesterday afternoon, to meet Airs. T. IV. White, wife of the Commonwealth Alinister of Customs, who is visiting Wellington. The house was gaily decorated with a wealth of lovely early summer blooms which were arranged in charming manner in the drawlug-room, the dining-room and the large entrance hall. Airs. Payne received her guests in a frock of brown satin-backed crepe, with draped bodice with four chromium buttons in the shape of stare. Airs. White was in a navy ensemble with hat to match. .

Welcome To Wellington

A most pleasant morning tea party, given by the executive of the lathes’ auxiliary of the Y.AI.C.A., was held at Kirkcaldie’s tearooms yesterday, the guest of honour being Airs. Victor C. Jones,-wife of the new secretary of the Y.AI.C.A. Air. and Airs. Jones arrived at Wellington from Honolulu on Tuesday. The guests were seated at a long white-clothed table which was charmingly decorated with vases of mauve sweet peas and maidenhair fern. Mrs. Jones was met by Airs. R. S. Alaundcr, president of the executive, who welcomed her to Wellington in a happy speech. A beautiful bouquet of roses, carnations and sweet peas, in tones of pink, and maidenhair fern was presented to the guest of honour, a similar one being handed to the secretary, Airs. Gibson, who has returned to Wellington from a holiday. Both bouquets were made by Airs. Ironside, a member of the executive. During the serving of morning tea all present found much, to talk about, the guest of th c morning being anxious to hear about Wellington and activities here.

Hannah. Farewell To Miss Morgan Aliss Janet Alorgan, A1.8.E., who is leaving the Alexandra Hospital, was entertained recently at a party in the lecture room, which was gay with beautiful Howers. The gathering though necessarily small, was representative of those who most appreciate Aliss Alorgan’s work of over 18 years at this hospital. Short speeches of farewell and heartfelt good wishes were made by Airs. T. E. Corkill (president) by Miss Vickermau, who presented Miss Alorgan with a bouquet from the committee, and also by Dr. Corkill and Dr. Ewart, who presented .Aliss Alorgan with a handsome cheque from the Wellington doctors. ■ Dr. Corkill’s speech stressed the value of the standards and traditions established by Aliss Alorgan.

The Health Department was represented by Aliss Lambic and Aliss Aloore, and there were also present many of the nurses and trainees, Aliss Julius, Airs. Price and the members of the commit tee. At the committee meeting of the Alexandra Home held this week reports of a very busy month were received from the matrons. Thanks were expressed for donations received. A "China” Tea

A “china” tea in honour of Aliss Nancy Herron, whose marriage to Air. Keith Doyle will take place shortly,

was given at the D.I.C. yesterday afternoon by Aliss Connie Ham, who was assisted by her mother, Airs. Alaurlce Ham. The tea-table, set with bowls of coloured antirrhinum, looked very attractive. The guest of honour was the recipient of a number of useful and pretty china gifts for her new home. Airs. Ham was wearing a costume of black lacquered crepe relieved with white, and a small black hat. Aliss Ham was in a costume of cornflower blue with hat to tone, and Miss Herron was wearing a frock of black self-spot-ted crepe with peacock-green chiffon blouse aud a black crepe bolero. Her hat was of the breton sailor type.
