MASTER CRACKSMAN
Eight-year-old Boy HouseBreaker’s Escapades (Received March 31, 7.25 p.m.) London, March 31. An eight-year-old boy housebreaker admitted at the juvenile court at Poole 15 thefts involving £3O. The police evidence showed the breakings were made in so clever a way that they were believed to be the work of an expert cracksman until the boy showed how he obtained entry. His parents unsuccessfully tried to restrain the boy by tying him up with a rope and chain and weighting his boots. When sent to bed without clothes the boy emerged at an upper window in a shirt. The magistrate ordered him to be sent to a special school until he is 16. The mother said the boy was lovable but adventurous. “When I had a poisoned hand he bathed, dressed and powdered the baby and did all he could to relieve me of my work at home with six children,” she said. “I cannot oppose him going away, as he has taken his brothers, aged seven and five, on his expeditions.”
