WHITE ARMS AT EVENING

JIJA.NY people suffer from red and discoloured arms which, if the disfigurement is only skin deep, require : only the same care and attention that is given to the face. The following treatment is excellent for the skin and for banishing unsightly “goose-flesh”:— Every other night, scrub the upper part of the arm and elbow gently with hot water and plenty of soap. Rinse all the soap carefully oil the arm, and give a final rinse in cold water. Take a rough towel and rub briskly until the skin glows with the increased and invigorating blood supply. Heat a small amount of olive oil and massage it gently into the skin and elbow with a rotary movement, until all the surplus oil has been absorbed. On the following night, after you have washed your arms, smear some lemon-juice over the skin and leave it on all night. Repeat these treatments on alternate nights. A good plan to save unnecessary expense, is to bottle the juice of two lemons every week and use the ' liquid as required. It is essential to keep the bottle tightly corked. A RMS too fat are never beautiful, and here is an exercise which will slim them down: Stand erect, gradually lift your arms upward, extend them at right angles with your shoulders, then sharply bend the elbows, clenching your hands hard as you bring them

♦ Simple Treatment And Exercises Give You Ballroom Grace Beauty Series No. 4—By Beverley Joy. yyHITE arms against the rich materials of evening dress have a soft and indefinable allure. But beautiful arms mean more than shapely hands, pretty wrists and rounded elbow's. The fleshy, upper part attracts most attention if it is neglected—too fat, too thin, red and coarsened or spotted with “goose flesh.

down almost on to your head. Open your hands again, lower the arms at right angles, pause for a moment, and let them fall to your sides. This movement will exercise every muscle in the hands, wrist, and arm. Do it six times every night and morning. , An alternative exercise is to stand erect and lift the right arm forward, then up straight above your he,ad. Now bend the hand backward from the wrist. Open the fingers wide. Close and straighten the hand and drop arm to the side. Repeat the exercise with the left arm and hand. _ Do this movement slowly six times night and morning with each hand. Massage thin arms with a mixture of warm olive oil aud milk every night. The milk prevents any darkening of the skin by’the olive oil, which,.incidentally, with not make the hair grow. Massage from the wrist upward, gently but firmly, after putting a few drops of the oil in the palms of your hands. Also, take up any exercise which entails arm movement. TT is a bad habit to support your elbows on a desk or table when reading. If you must rest on something, try cutting a lemon in halves, slightly squeezing the juice out, and then resting your elbows in the cup which has been made. Better still, procure two flat lambswool powderpuffs and, after applying cream to

them and to your elbows, fix them by means of adhesive tape. Your elbows will soon become soft aud the pads will remind you to resist the temptation of elbow-resting. The arms can be improved for special occasions by the skilful application of make-up. Liquid powder, if properly applied, will improve their appearance, and calomine lotion is excellent. Apply it with a piece of chamois leather and rub with the hands until the skin is dry and the powder is spread evenly and smoothly. The hands should be washed and dried and a dab of vanishing cream applied to the palm of each hand. Add about two drops of lemon-juice and mix both to a creamy liquid. Rub well into the hands until the skin is dry. Carry out these treatments regularly.
