University First Eleven The Victoria University College Cricket Club’s first eleven did quite creditably m the Wellington Cricket Association s senior championship competition during the 1936-37 season, finishing fourth with _b points. , ~ , The batting averages were headed by J. R. Stevens, who owes his position to the fact that he was dismissed only three times in nine visits to the wickets. He scored 139 runs, at an average ot 4b.J3. J. A. R. Blandford was second, with an average of 45.40. His aggregate was 4i>4, with a top score of 138. Blandford showed his all-round ability by catching 11 and stumping three batsmen as wicketkeeper for the side. Bowling honours were carried off by W. Tricklebank, who took 36 wickets at an average of 15.44. In all he bowled 172.3 overs, and had 556 runs hit off his deliveries. As he also scored 244 runs with the bat, at an average of 2—lB, he was a valuable member of the team. N. H. McMillan was another useful allrounder. With the bat he scored 198 runs, at an average of 24.75, and captured 20 wickets for 362 runs, an average of 18.1.0. Other members who gave useful service with bat and ball were T. A. Harpur aud W. F. Vietmeyer. Following are the complete batting and bowling averages:—
