Easter Championship Tournament Despite the weather conditions, the Wellington Lawn Tennis League opened its Easter tournament with a record entry of J 23. A very high standard was evident in all events, and was sustained throughout. Following are the results: SENIOR GRADE. Men’s Singles. First round: Sutherland beat Maybury, 2-6 6-2, 6-2; Kelly heat Cameron, 6-1, 6-3; Merlo beat Zane, 3-6, 6-3, 7-5. Second round: Deal beat Ingram, 8-6, 6- Charles beat Wainwright, 6-2, 6-4; Sutherland beat Kelly, 7-5, 6-4; Merlo beat Fitzgerald, 6-2, 6-2; Gorman beat Porter, 6 Third round: Pickering beat Deal, 6-0, 7Women's Singles. First round: Miss Barclay beat Miss McIlroy, 6-1. 6-1; Mrs. Sutherland beat Miss Edie, 6-4, 6-5; Miss Jones beat Miss Bethel!, 6 Second round: Mrs. Sutherland beat Miss Harrington, 6-1, 6-3; Miss Jones beat Miss Glover, 6-4, 6-5; Miss Rowe beat Mrs. Eade, 6-1, 6-2. Third round: Miss Rowe'beat Miss Jones, 5-6, 6-2, 6-3. Men’s Doubles. First round: Williams aud Strong beat Ingram and Wainwright, 3-6, 6-1. Second round: Zane and Maybury beat Porter and Deal, 2-6, 6-4, 6-2; Sutherland and Fitzgerald won by default from-Wil-liams and strong; Martell and Pickering beat Merlo and Eade, 6-1, 7-5. J Semi-fingl: Zane and Maybury beat ’Sutherland and Fitzgerald, 6-3, 6-4.
Women’s Doubles. First round: Misses Rowe aud Jones beat Misses Danes and Wayburne by default. Second round; Misses Jones and Rowe beat Misses Edie and Mcllroy, 6-2, 6-4; Misses Barclay and Harrington beat Miss Glover and Mrs. Sutherland, 2-6, 6-4, 6-1. Mixed Doubles. First round: Eade and Mrs. Eade beat Fitzgerald and Miss Mcllroy, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3. SECOND GRADE. Men's Singles. First round: Sutherland beat Bathgate, Second round: Goldfinch beat Bloore, 6-1, 9-7; Sutherland beat Fisk, 6-0, 6-2; Solomon beat Sproule. 6-2, 6-3; O. Osborne beat Cornish. 6-1, 8-6. „ , Third round: Sutherland beat Goldfinch, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3. Women’s Singles. First round: Miss Rust beat Miss Stewart, 6-2, 6-2; Mrs. Kirker beat Miss McCarlie, 6-5, 6-3; Mrs. Newton beat Miss Weir, 6-5, 6-2. Second round: Miss Rust beat Airs. Third round: Miss Wakelin beat Miss DeCent, 9-2; Mrs. Rowe beat Miss Pickington, 9-2. Final: Mrs. Rowe beat Miss Wakelin, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4. ■Women’s Doubles. First round: Mrs. Rowe and Miss Decent beat Misses Edie and Wainwright, 9-3. Men’s Doubles. First round: Watson and Taylor beat. Webber and McNaughton. 9-6: Edwards and Bunchenberg beat Hall and Hardy, Second round: Bunchenberg and Edwards beat Morris and Moncrief, 9-S. Mixed Doubles. First round: Mr. and Mrs. Rowe beat Hardv and Miss Wakelin, 9-6: Andrew and Miss Edie beat Hall and Miss Langstone, 9-5; Watson and Miss DeCent beat Moncrief and Miss Dixon, 9-4. The tournament will be continued on Saturday, at the Hataitai municipal courts, commencing at 1.30 p.m. The following players are required:— Men: Gorman. Deal, Merlo. Wainwright, Zane, Martell, .Williams, Kelly, Charles, Mortensen, Strong. Eade. Women: Misses Danes, Barclay, Harring-
ton, Edie, Rowe, Jonis, Stewart, Tait, McCariie and Mrs. House. The tournament will be concluded at Vogelmorn courts on Sunday, play .commencing at 9.30 sharp. All players in all grades in the semi-finals and finals are required. Any player failing to report by 10.30 a.ni. will be defaulted.
